Waking Up to a bed full of ants and roaches. Pouring a bowl of cereal only to find roaches crawling around in my cereal. Having to shake rats out of my boots before i went to work everyday.
What’s the point of this blog entry? Well, sometimes it’s good to look back on how your life used to be, so that you can appreciate your life for what it is today. While it might not be perfect, it damn sure could be worse.
I figured spring break would be a good time to give you guys an update on me and let you guys know why you probably won’t be seeing many updates on this site for a while. I’m seeking another degree at a UNIVERSITY now… so life is MUCH different and I’m still adjusting to the lifestyle change. This time last year there was no way I would have considered going to a real college. Those of you who know me know that I’ve always been the “ruff ryder” type and my “against the grain” type of personality was almost a defining characteristic of me. But times have changed and I figured it was time to get out of the “life”. I will try to update this blog w/ new content when I get the chance, but that probably won’t be too often.
Well, I decided to purchase the Clear 4g Home Modem last week because of internet problems in my place of residence. After being advised to avoid Clear by one of the best buy employees in the cell phone department, I (like a dumbas) went against my (and his) better judgment and sign a contract with clear after a sales person at Clear was able to show me 10+ Mbits/sec on her Speedtest.net Test.
When I initially starting using the device everything was great. I was getting about 9 Mbits on average in download speeds. then about 3 days later it was down to half of that. Then I decided to download a 1gb Application that I needed for my programming class at school and suddenly my connection was being throttled to a ridiculously low speed. 0.5 Mbits!!!!!! WTF!! I can tether my iphone to my laptop and get speeds better than that!!!
So, I decided to call customer support about my speeds and the retarded sounding outsourced worker tells me that there is “Network Congestion”….. at 1am. 1 o’clock in the morning? Really???….. I proceeded to tell her that her answer was highly unlikely to be the case. Then she tells me that it’s because of some “management system” that throttles “Heavy Users” so that the network can remain stable. According to her, the system thinks that watching youtube videos and checking e-mail makes me a “heavy” user and they can’t do anything to change the system as if it was magically implemented by a Computer Genius Wizard that came down from the clouds. She then proceeds to tell me that I should stop watching youtube videos and basically stop using the service that I’m PAYING FOR until speeds return to normal. I took her advice and of course, they didn’t return back to normal.
I called customer service again and another outsourced worker with a fake name and a heavy accent tells me that I have to Unplug my modem for 24 hours then plug it back to get my speeds back to normal. Well… after about 36 hours I plug it back in and test the speeds and I’m still getting 0.2 – 0.6 Mbits per second. I will be canceling the service today. I refuse to put up with this unacceptable service. At $54 per month that they charge, I shouldn’t have a problem w/ throttling or “network congestion”. This is as much as a fucking broadband cable bill. And while I didn’t expect broadband speeds exactly, I did expect it to be consistent with semi-decent speeds. But this was not at all the case.
There is a Clear signal tower that’s placed just outside of my university, so there is no excuse for the poor speeds or “network congestion”. I feel like the company is only here to take advantage of kids who are at my university who are desperate for an alternative to the horrible internet that the school provides them. If you’re desperate like I was in needing an internet solution that’s mobile…. DO NOT CHOOSE CLEAR! Save yourself the time and frustration and avoid this company at all costs. So, I was bored tonight with no work to do, so I decided to make a completely new theme for my night time tumblr blog. The tumblr theme is time sensitive so you’ll only see this layout at night.
So…. Rockstar will release a trailer for Grand Theft Auto 5 in November… the date can’t come fast enough for me. If you know me, you know I’m the BIGGEST Grand Theft Auto fan… I haven’t been excited for a game like this since I was in middle school.
And to all of those who are speculating the location based on the logo… you’re all wrong. The “five” is representative of the five dollar bill. Quit jumping to conclusions and wait for the trailer in November.
I was able to finish bignotch.com 2.0. I decided to go with wordpress as my CMS and the entire website was coded and designed by ME (of course ). It was truly a learning experience working with php and javascript to create the site. I think i’ve gained some valuable knowledge over the months while working on this.
After drawing up this concept, I thought there was NO WAY that i would be able to get this as a working WP theme:
After that I finished the concept and created a day/night variation. So I could later program a script that switched the banners depending on the time of day. Here are the two finished concepts:
