I love my 2010 iMac. However, when it comes to professional work, my iMac just doesn’t hack it. My workload is increasing and the demands are getting higher for 3D Motion Graphic work. C4D takes FOREVER to render projects (and these are simple animations).

I considered buying a Mac Pro, but i’m not sure if this is a good decision based on the current state of apple. Here are some gripes I have with Apple at the moment.

  • Apple Seem to be catering towards the consumer and pushing away developers and professionals
  • Every piece of software they update actually takes it a step backwards (ie FCPX)
  • Most plug-ins for Photoshop, After Effects, VSTS, etc ….they are available for windows first & some of them don’t even get ported over to the mac at all
  • Apple waits to long to update their hardware line (ie. Mac Pro) and when they do update their hardware, it’s still behind. I miss the days when apple was really “Cutting-Edge” in regards to hardware.

In short, apple has the consumer market mastered. But they have a long ways to go in the professional realm. For me, it’s time to upgrade to a professional solution. I would like to know how you guys feel about apple and their current attention to the professional market.

Have you ever tried to contact me thought E-Mail, Twitter, Facebook or IM and haven’t gotten a response? Well, here are some of the reasons why.

1.) You want a Hand-Out.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but WHO ARE YOU? Who are you to ask me to do anything for free? I get countless e-mails from random people asking me for free beats, page designs, websites, logo’s, software etc… Nobody is entitled to free work. I get paid for what I do and don’t appreciate getting messages from random people who think they are too good to pay for my services. Do you go to Best Buy and ask for free MacBooks and iPods? Well, I’m Best Buy.

2.) You have “Instructions”.

How many of us get random messages and e-mails from strangers like this?

Google my name lil Lazy One, find my Facebook page and become a fan of it, then bake cookies (preferably chocolate chip) and mail them to Me & da Homiez PO Box 6969187 SuckerRetardTown, Alabama 72048. Slap your mother, capture her reaction on camera and then mail the video to our PO Box.
Oh yea, call in and vote for us on LameAsShit Radio 696-666-6969″

Are you kidding me? Who do you think is really going to take time their day to do all of this? Maybe a few of your relatives, that’s about it. I will always ignore e-mails and Twitter DM’s I receive like this.

3.) You want TOO MUCH free advice.

Just because I call myself “Notch The Guru” doesn’t mean that i’m your mentor or your teacher. I don’t mind giving out free advice sometimes. If you’re actively working towards something and need a little “push”in the right direction, I will help you. But I will not hold your hand and walk you step-by-step through your career. There are way too many guides and tutorials online for you NOT to know basic things about your “career”. If you don’t have the drive to figure out some basic things for yourself, then you probably shouldn’t even be doing what you’re doing in the first place.

4.) You’re didn’t do your research.

If you’re asking me if I want to buy beats, web design, whack drum kits, etc… then it’s obvious you didn’t do your research and don’t even know who you’re talking to. Your buckshot marketing approach is pathetic and will definitely be ignored. If you weren’t so “Thirsty”, you would have done your research and realized that sending me this e-mail was a waste of time.

5.) You’re trying to sell me something.

You should know that sending mass e-mails to strangers is not an effective marketing strategy. As soon I see that you’re trying to sell me something, I hit the spam button to make sure I never have to see your “product” in my inbox ever again. If people want your product, they will buy it, no need to shove it down our throats.

4168005810_998e2ab661.jpegSo here goes my first blog written completely on an iPad…

I think people are confused about who they are. Most people are quick to label others who seek recognition as “thirsty”, but are they really? In my opinion, there is a clear distinction between being “hungry” and being “thirsty”.

Someone who is hungry is motivated. Someone who is patient and is willing to work hard and wait for recognition or to achieve a goal. A person who is hungry is careful and calculating when trying to reach their goals. A person who is hungry is persistent in their efforts to reach their goal(s), and will NOT resort to underhanded tactics in order to get there. A person who is hungry works harder than the hardest working person who is trying to reach the same goal. A person who is hungry understands that nothing worth having comes easy. A person who is hungry knows that nothing happens over-night. A person who is hungry sits back and laughs at thirsty people because he’s reached his goal years ago, and the thirsty person will keep running in circles and NEVER reach their goal.

A “thirsty” person is usually an impulsive person with no drive. They simply do things because “everybody else is doing it”. They want instant gratification and recognition for whatever little work they’ve done. They are not persistent, and their work is not consistent because they are not patient and feel that they are above most people, therefore they shouldn’t have to work as hard to as hungry people to attain what they have. They are the random people that spam you on Facebook and Twitter all the time with promo’s and links to their whatever they’re selling or doing. They are the people that tag the end of controversial internet clips with ridiculous chants or stupid commercials about something nobody really cares about. They do stupid and outlandish shit in order to get attention. They are the epitome of desperate.

Yes, it is finally running. After having the domain reserved for almost 4 years, i’ve finally decided to do something with it. I spent alot of time contemplating what the focus of the website would be. And how I would market it. Then I just said SCREW IT and decided to launch it. Even if it isn’t successful, it will look good in my portfolio.

Sign Up and discuss if you’d like. You can do it quickly w/ your twitter or youtube account.

I’ve been using the WP E-Commerce system for WordPress for YEARS and I thinks it’s a very useful tool for small businesses, but it also needs to be tweaked and modified to be completely useful. I hated the default comment system that came with the plug-in and wanted to use the popular disqus system since it supports a many ways of logging in and has many parameters. I couldn’t find much help on ways to implement the system, so after a few hours of trial and error, I have finally figured out how to get the disqus comment system working with WP-Ecommerce.

1.) Create a Disqus Account and add your website to the account.

disqusreg.jpg

2.) After you finish registering and setting up the account, navigate over the the Install Tab and Select the “Universal Code” and Copy the ‘Embed Code’ that the disqus site gives you.

InstallTab.jpg

3.) Next, you will need to edit the Header.php file of your current wordpress theme that is in use. (wp-content/themes/yourcurrenttheme/header.php)

phpheader.jpg

4.) Open the php file with Dreamweaver or a Text Editor to modify the code.

5.) Use Insert the portion of the Embed Code that is highlighted in red and insert it just above the closing </head> tag.

embedcode.jpgheadercode.jpg

6.) Next its time to place the the remaining small portion of code(highlighted in blue) inside of the WP E-commerce plug-ins. Make sure you have moved your WPEC theme files over to the uploads folder. The path should be something like ( wp-content/uploads/wpsc/theme/your_current_theme) If they are not there, you can move them in the setting panel in under your WP E-commerce tab in the WordPress Dashboard.

7.)In your theme folder. (i’m using a heavily modified iShop theme) you should see a file named single_product.php  or wpsc-single_product.php. Open it with a text editor to start editing.

themefolder.jpg

8.) Look for the Shopping Cart Symbol php method. It should be right around line 176. Once you find it insert the portion of code highlighted in blue “<div id=”disqus_thread”></div>” directly under it.

embedcode.jpg

So it Should look something like this.

singproduct.jpg

After that, you should see the disqus comment box DIRECTLY under your Add To Cart function on your Single Products page.singleProductPage.jpg

9.) Next we’re going to create a View Comments link to link to the Single product page on the main product page, you’ll need to open the products page php (highlighted in blue) file in your theme folder. And get your text editor ready for editing.

themefolder2.jpg

10.) You’ll need to call the permalink function and link it to text (or an Image if you want), so that it links to the single product and it’s comments. With your products_page, look for the “Add to Cart” function. It should be around line 195.  Then add this line of code:

<a href=’<?php echo wpsc_the_the_product_permalink(); ?’> Your Text Link Here </a>

Of Course you would replace the “Your Text Link Here” part with whatever you desire. I personally created a custom .png buttondisqusbutton.png, then I wrapped the code in a div so I could position the button in the theme css file. So Here is what my code looks like.

lastCode.jpg

So, now my product list in my store looks like this.

storefront.jpg

This is just my way of doing it and it may not be the best. There is a way to get the Comment Count to show also, but I didn’t have time to implement it. If anybody has an alternative way of doing this or a better method, please leave a comment.

What’s Up Josh?

June 8th, 2011

Well, it’s summer time. And now I have more time to waste writing boring blogs that none of you will read. I’ve also had some time to invest in my music website BigNotch.com and my other websites including this one. So expect to see some minor changes on the website as well as more update. I was thinking of doing vlog’s for website promotions, but my currently camera is a piece of shit and my iMac doesn’t have a firewire 400 port on it. Yes, the iMac has a camera on it, but the iMac sits too high on my desktop (Yea, I know, the ergonomics are totally fucked). I’m walking across the stage pretty soon, so who knows what will be in store for me afterwards. Probably nothing, but who knows…

The REALEST VIDEO EVER

April 14th, 2011

I’ve been following this dude jerry lavigne on youtube for a minute now because the dude is funny.  But this one video in particular is probably my favorite. I’m not the kind of black person to always pull the race card. But the truth is the truth no matter how you slice it.

MineCraftNotch.jpg

At first I was enjoying the attention, but now it’s just getting annoying. There seems to be some gave developer going by the name of ‘Notch’ that everybody seems to be confusing me with. If you’re not a complete retard you would as soon as you hit ItsNotch.com that I was not Markus Persson (the MineCraft creator guy). But this is for people who used .00001% of their brains, went though this entire website and still didn’t come to the conclusion that I was not the infamous Minecraft creator.

So, this blog entry is my official response to all of you “MINECRAFT” fans out there. I AM NOT THE CREATOR OF MINECRAFT. The person who created minecraft is some older white guy from the UK who calls himeself “Notch”. As you can see, CLEARLY i’m the opposite of that. My full alias name is “Big Notch”. Not, ‘Notch’, ‘Knotch’, and Noch or anything else.  Some people just call me ‘Notch’ to shorten it up. Maybe this is where the confusion is coming from. If you’re searching for him and my website comes up, it’s because I was calling myself ‘Big Notch’ long before this guy appeared out of nowhere with his little building block game. And no I don’t play the game or have any interest in playing it in the near future.

So for the last time…. I AM NOT THE CREATOR OF MINECRAFT!!!!
